What role does the coupling play in the linear module?

Update:15 Jun 2022

The coupling is mainly the connection between the lead screw and the motor, and it is one of the important tasks for the installation of the linear module. It is related to the normal operation and accuracy of the linear slide table, which is especially important for the linear module running at high speed.

In the design of the linear module, it is stipulated that there is an allowable deviation value in the center of the two shafts, which is also required when installing the coupling. From an assembly point of view, as long as the coupling can transmit torque safely and reliably, the allowable deviation between the two shaft centers The larger the value, the easier it is to meet the requirements during installation. However, from the point of view of quality, the smaller the deviation of the centerline of the two axes, the more accurate the alignment, the better the operation of the linear slide table, and the longer the service life.

When installing the coupling, we fix one end first. For example, after the coupling on the host side is positioned, adjust the other half coupling based on this to make it centered with the half coupling on the host side. Fix the dial indicator on the half-coupling on the host side, the contact of the dial indicator touches the other half-coupling, and turn the coupling to align and adjust, and also fix the dial indicator on the non-host side half-coupling. On the shaft, the dial indicator contact is in contact with the half coupling on the host side, and the alignment meter can be placed on the host side or the transmission side, mainly for the convenience of work. When centered, adjust the left and right values of the circumference = the sum of the upper and lower values. The final inspection standard for alignment is that the centers of the two pairs of wheels coincide, that is, the outer circles of the two pairs of wheels are coincident, and the joint surfaces (end faces) of the two pairs of wheels are parallel (the two center lines are parallel).
